black and white process compositions

Silkscreen Sketches 2010

My silkscreen process:
First I take photos, draw or paint and scan.
Second, I recompose these into digital compositions.
Third, I take burn these compositions into silkscreens.
Finally, I hit the printmaking studio and start to get crazy with color and compositions.

These sketches are the process, black and white compositions of step #2. The black shapes are all turned into colorful paintings in the end. While I love working with color- I do all my beginning work in only black and white.

Newly moved to NYC, I received a year long residency award from the Lower East Side Printshop. These works are all process pieces leading to the creation of final silkscreen/painting combinations.
