Timelapse video of
Edinburgh + Chelsea Mural Process
This mural is located in a private home in Chelsea, NYC. It wraps around all 4 sides of a wall becoming the center piece of the home. I’ve been very fortunate to get to know the clients, share their space and have so much respect for their relationship to art. Their collection is diverse, compelling and thoughtful.
This piece responds to the clients love of two places: Edinburgh, Scotland and New York City. It toes a balance between their love of gardening, nature and a cultured, urban life. After spending time with the clients in Edinburgh, drawing and exploring the city they both met in- I embarked on a mission to add color, energy and a bold art venture all painted directly on the wall.
I worked in a new way, blending silkscreen, about 30% of the art and high flow acrylic paint, applied with paint markers making up the rest. This allowed me to reach highly custom colors, unique variations in colors and have a clean look where the art looks like it was done similar to my paper works.
The piece has a narrative, which is started once you walk in the front door, one cant move along two directions circling around and leading through a plant and architecture adventure. I’ve mapped every drawing that went into this art- with a bit of an easter egg hunt, one can see that mapping project here.
