European photo journey
Amsterdam/Rotterdam 2006
I loved Amsterdam and I don’t hump prostitutes or smoke weed. This city is incredible, livable and beautiful with such a history. Plus all the water and boats. I have a fantastical historical envy of the age when ships sailed the earth (or tied too).
In 2006 I took a 4 month photo source travel around Europe. While I’d intended to use this all as source material for my printmaking, I ended up having fun with the photos themselves. I focused on exploring the relationship of lines and the ‘horizon line’ in my photos as well as a couple unexpected outcomes. Such as shooting people photography which is quite fun and a carefree way of documenting life.
During these travels I ended up staying at random peoples places through the website Couchsurfing or just people I’d meet. The ability to stay in neighborhoods tourists rarely visited affected the content of these photos. At the end of each stay I’d make a photo composition present as a ‘thanks’, I ended up making a lot of friends and came away with a newfound faith in people.
