Process video of
Creation of Chicago Condo Mural
This artwork was installed in the lobby of a new apartment building, Avenir in Chicago. It’s in 3 sections, in 8 layers of plexiglass all CNC routed to be precision installed on individual rods coming off the wall. It’s a very similar construct as a collaboration I did years ago in Portland with Justin Gorman.
This was a collaboration between myself (art, pre-production, digital work, overall install plan, concepts) and Christophe Gausparro (fabrication, installing, materials selection, on site management, concepts).
This type of install is a digital forward venture, as every line is cut by a computer potted line, so the files all become crazy important. All the layers need to line up perfectly for it to come together. We were able to have a lot of fun with the organic and mapping shapes on this project. The clients were very supportive and I actually did 5 more large format murals for the building, seen here.
