Dead Kicking
In 2007 I traveled to over 15 countries teaching myself how to take photos. This show was a product of spending months traveling, taking photos and ultimately being alone. It’s an introspective visual journey of thoughts, desires and struggles all conveyed through a lens of disconnected solitude.
Ultimately, I’d started to feel a disconnect with the world as an artist as I’d struggled to balance work/life and idealism/compromise. I was romantically lost due to the challenge of having stability in my life or just a consistent city to live in. The theme of love and desire play heavily in these pieces.
I’ved lived in over 30 places in my life, about as many cities as I’ve years in my life- this amount of change affected how I viewed and related to my surroundings. Having no identifiable “home” was particularly challenging throughout my 4 different moves I made the year these were created. With themes of introspection, love, war and belonging I started to puzzle out priorities and how to focus on art as well as having a healthy life.
